principles

These guidelines were put together to help articulate our idea about the project. They should be thought about in addition to a general commitment against racism, transphobia, sexism and ageism.

  1. Our primary aim as a group is to work together to develop greater collective knowledge around the arms industry, both between ourselves and within the wider public. These principles are in service of this goal.
  2. Participants will have diverse life experiences. We take seriously the aim of running a plural space, and we all have a responsibility to approach one another with thoughtfulness.
  3. We have a particular responsibility to hold sensitivity for participants whose lives have been touched by war.
  4. We will respect one another’s privacy, while understanding that Wikipedia is not anonymous, and that the wikithons are not private events. Consider that some participants may face different risks.
  5. Make sure you are in good faith with your editing: Wikipedia is an infrastructure based on trust. Objectivity is an art and a science - facts are never neutral, but we should still strive for fair and transparent accounts.
  6. Help other people to edit, ask for help when you need it, and don’t be put off by someone doing things differently. Have confidence and be bold!
  7. Some people might find the following line helpful: ‘we are not just against war, we want to create the conditions for peace’

Changes to these principles can be proposed in this google doc, or by contacting Agnes via email.
